Lighting Effects
According to the Mayo Clinic, lighting is a very important factor in mood, not only for the home, but for practically any business, too; a lack of adequate lighting can make you feel depressed (it's because light deprivation can affect the production of the hormone, melatonin, leading to physiological imbalances.
Here's a few tips to improve any interior lighting:
To create a more pleasant atmosphere, use wall lighting instead of an overhead one in a large space.
In a public area or space, however, overhead lighting is the best option to use.
Did you know that the main reason most table lamps have shades is to promote relaxation? (the shade diffuses any direct lighting. Conversely, bright light will tend to energize you (and can prevent you from winding down when you need to).
The average home typically needs a combination of lighting sources, such as several overhead lights paired with ambient lights and task lightings. To vary the effects of lighting, incorporate a variety of fixture types-including pendants and under-the cabinet lighting-and include dimmers.
Add an untraditional touch to a dining room by placing an expected lighting fixture-a floor lamp-next to the table.
If it's affordable, install a scene-control lighting system that can provide varying levels of light in different rooms-or on specific objects, like artwork-with the flip of a switch.
A large, drum-shaped lampshade covered with textured silk has a rich appearance both on and off. When lit, it will cast a flattering glow in the room.
